All-on-Four® Treatment Concept
If you are losing your teeth gradually due to gum disease or tooth decay, it can be both physically and mentally challenging, not to mention painful. Madison Oral Surgery & Dental Implants is here and available to help you with the All-on-4® Treatment concept. This treatment has many benefits and will allow you to regain the teeth you have lost.
Why Should I Consider Replacing My Teeth?
If you have lost all of your natural teeth, or you are in the process of losing your natural teeth, you need to know that we have the ability to replace those teeth. You may want to replace your teeth for cosmetic reasons. You just want to look better. You may also want to replace your teeth for other reasons, such as making sure that your jawbone stays strong. Your body may begin to take the bone away from your jawbone if it feels your body doesn’t need it because there aren’t any teeth there. This removal of bone can lead to a loss of mass in your jawbone, and over time, this loss of bone could change the shape of your face. It may also make your face look older than it actually is.
All-on-4 dental implants are another option that is available if you have lost bone mass and might otherwise be considered ineligible for regular implant supported dentures. Instead of the six to eight implants typically used, your replacement teeth are supported by four strategically placed implants. Two of the implants are placed toward the front of the jaw, where there is naturally more bone mass. The other two implants are placed toward the back of the jaw, one on either side and are inserted at a 45-degree angle. This angle helps to maximize contact with bone, increasing fusion and stabilization. In the upper jaw, this angle also helps to avoid piercing the maxillary sinus cavities, and helps to avoid the need for a sinus lift. All-on-4 provides a non-removable alternative to dentures that helps you to avoid the need for a bone graft.
Thanks to the introduction of the All-on-4 Treatment Concept, the need for a bone graft is eliminated. This is because your implants are placed at strategic locations, and at specific angles, taking advantage of the bone mass that you do have remaining in your jaw. By avoiding a bone graft surgery, you will only require the downtime from the implant surgery (rather than requiring downtime for both), which helps you get your replacement teeth that much faster.
Replacing Your Teeth
To begin the All-on-4 procedure, we first have to remove any remaining teeth you may have. When your gums have healed, we numb the area, and place four titanium screws into your jaw. The screws anchor to your jawbone through your gums. Your jaw then thinks you have your teeth back - and you do, because we replace all of your teeth in your jaw with a whole-jaw implant. You get a new full set of teeth that not only look natural, but work to save your jaw.
