![]() Our oral surgeons can help diagnose and treat sleep apnea, and it can get better. Types of Sleep Apnea
What Causes Sleep Apnea?Sleep apnea is common among adults and it is more prevalent in people who are obese. Obesity is linked with soft tissue of the mouth and throat. While sleeping, the throat and tongue muscles are more relaxed, and this can cause the airways to become blocked.Treatments for Sleep ApneaTo determine what type of sleep apnea you suffer from, you may need a sleep study, which usually requires an overnight stay at a sleep center, where your sleeping patterns are monitored. Sometimes treatment with a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Procedure) can start on that same day. This is a mask that is secured over the nose and/or mouth and blows air into the airway, so it can stay open during sleep.Using a CPAP is a very effective treatment with patients who suffer from different forms of sleep apnea and it's important that you use it following the instructions our doctor will give you. Other Treatments for Sleep Apnea
While CPAP is an excellent way to treat sleep apnea and highly recommended to make patients feel better during the day and get more sleep, our oral surgeons will explain what the best option is for you. |
