![]() Dental implants look and work like your natural teeth. And like your natural teeth, they need you to take care of them. When cared for properly implants can last a lifetime. Before you get implants, you need to learn how to care for them and for your natural teeth. How to Care for Dental ImplantsUnlike dentures, the dental implants remain in place all the time. That means you cannot remove them to clean them. Even though they use man-made material, that does not mean they cannot become damaged or cause other problems with your oral health if they are not cleaned properly.Cleaning your teeth and your dental implants removes the bacteria that builds up over the day. It also helps remove any stains that may occur. The best way to clean both natural teeth and implants is through brushing and flossing regularly. It is also important to visit our offices twice a year for checkups and professional cleaning. What to Use The tools used to clean dental implants are the same tools used for your natural teeth. A soft to medium toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste is best. Floss between both natural teeth and the implants every day. Use a clean section of floss between each tooth. You can also include an anti-bacterial mouthwash in addition to the brushing and flossing. If there is any damage to the implant, if the crown breaks, chips or becomes loose, it is important to come into our office as soon as possible. Just like your natural teeth, ignoring problems with your implants can lead to more trouble. Dental implants may not be the same as your natural teeth, but they are very similar. That is why the care for your implants and your natural teeth is similar. The better you care for all your teeth, the happier they are.
