How Neglecting to Have Oral Surgery for a Dental Abscess Can Negatively Affect Your HealthHave you noticed a small, soft pocket in your mouth that is near a tooth? It could look or feel like a small sore that is not open. If you have noticed this, you very well might have a dental abscess.

Your first inclination might be to ignore it, especially if it is not giving you any problems. If you notice something unusual in your mouth, you should never ignore it. Instead, make an appointment, so that we can see what is going on. You should never ignore a dental abscess. Here is why.

Pain
The tooth may not be causing you any pain right now, but if you leave it alone there is a good chance that you will have pain from it eventually. An abscess is a sign of decay or damage in a tooth. With untreated tooth decay, you will have pain at some point.

Infection
A dental abscess is filled with pus. If left alone, if could lead to infection. The infection might affect more than just your mouth, you could end up very ill because of it.

Decay
If you have a dental abscess, you have tooth decay. You could also have a problem with your gums. The longer you wait to have these things corrected, the worse they will get.

Teeth Extraction

If a dental abscess is caught early, we will often be able to treat it either by draining it or with a root canal. If you wait, the only treatment could be tooth extraction. You could lose the tooth.

You never want to take a chance when you realize that there is something unusual happening with your teeth or gums. Your best bet is to make an appointment with us, so that we can treat the problem before it gets worse.
