How the Body Uses a Fever When there is an infection in the body, the immune system works to fight the infection. A rise in body temperature is a sign that the body is fighting the infection. The higher body temperature may help the immune system in its fight. The fever breaking is a sign that the body is getting better. Combining Fever and Tooth PainFor illnesses such as a cold, the fever is a sign of the body fighting the cold. The cold is something that the immune system can battle without intervention. When the body is showing other symptoms along with the fever, it is often a sign that the body needs help in the fight. Tooth pain is a symptom of a bigger problem that the body will not resolve on its own.When tooth pain and fever are present, it is a sign of a dental abscess. This is an infection of the tooth. A pus pocket forms at the base of the infection. An abscessed tooth will not resolve on its own. Common treatments include antibiotics and root canals.
