What Is All a Part of Endodontic Surgery?

What Is All a Part of Endodontic Surgery?Endodontic surgery is a surgery that involves gum resection and visualization of the periapical region as well as small canals and cracks or crevices left in the gum tissue. There are certain conditions whereby individuals present with recurrent symptoms, but no condition is identified in the oral cavity, as causing the symptoms.

In such cases, non-invasive methods may be sought after to try and establish the cause of the symptoms. If this fails, as it most often does, scans and imaging techniques are then adopted to give a better view of the area. If all this proves fruitless, it may be time to consider endodontic surgery.

Indications For Endodontic Surgery

After undergoing a root canal, healing is expected in about a month or so. If after some time, healing has not occurred, it may be time to consider surgery, especially if the root canal cannot be repeated with a greater chance of success. When the bone surrounding the tooth or the tooth apex is damaged, endodontic surgery may be a solution

When small calcium deposits encircle the tooth and make paths too small for non-invasive cleaning, endodontic surgery may just be the solution.
You may also need surgery when there is no other way to diagnose or explain the cause of symptoms. This will allow a thorough examination of the root and the surrounding region for diagnosis.

How Is The Procedure Done?

The endodontist first removes the gum tissue by retracting it. This then gives an open view of the tooth location. The root of the tooth is the raised to expose the underlying tissue most of which may be inflamed. The endodontist then makes a cleaning of the region as well as removing any inflamed tissue along with calcium deposits.

Once complete, a small filling may be placed to seal the end of the oral canal. The region is then sealed and healing is allowed. The healing may take several months, but often with a very good prognosis.

Our team of endodontists is always ready and willing to work with you in achieving the most ideal long-term solution to your dental problems.
