All-on-4 dental implants are available to patients who have suffered tooth loss. If you are missing a few or all your teeth, all-on-4 dentures are one of your few options. These implants help to achieve a natural look that feels and functions as your natural teeth would.
The daily maintenance of your all-on-4 dental implants is the same as your natural teeth, so there is no change in routine to adapt to. However, not everyone qualifies for the procedure.
How to Know If You're Qualified for All-on-4 Dentures
All-on-4 dentures is a take on traditional dental implants. Unlike traditional dental implants, all-on-4 needs just four implants per arch to help secure the dentures. This method results in a far more efficient procedure that is less traumatic for your mouth. Not everyone can have all-on-4 dentures fitted, so here are some reasons why you may not be eligible.
Quit Smoking – To qualify for this procedure, a patient must not smoke on the lead up to the surgery, at an absolute minimum. Although, our team highly advises you to quit smoking altogether as it will increase your risk of suffering implant failure.
Sufficient Bone Structure – Our team will examine a patient's jawbone to ensure that their bone volume is sufficient for the surgery. Occasionally, a patient may require bone grafts before having the surgery. Bone density is vital to having all-on-4 dentures fitted because they rely on the support of bones.
Be in Good Overall Health – When a patient has any type of surgery that requires anesthesia, they must be in good health. If the patient has uncontrolled diabetes or is currently receiving radiation therapy in the jaw, this may disqualify them from the procedure.
Implant failure is a risk for patients who are suffering from gum disease or taking antidepressants. While this may not disqualify them, they should be aware of the risk.
If you are missing one or all your teeth and think that this procedure would benefit you, get in touch with our team today. We will schedule an appointment to discuss your options and to check that all-on-4 dentures are a method that suits you.
