Posted on 6/6/2022 by Tessa Smith-Greisch
What is Facial Trauma?Facial trauma happens when you have had injuries to your facial features. You might have facial injuries due to reasons like recreational activities like football, rugby, martial arts, vehicle accidents, falls, fights, and even work-related issues. These factors l causes you to have fractured facial features and might require a maxillofacial surgeon

Types of injuries affecting face or mouth

You might receive a facial injury after having a blow directly to the face or a fall. The experienced pain is severe and immediate causing swelling and bruising soon after the injury. In some instances, you might get dislocation of the jaw and this can cause problems to the temporomandibular joints, this will require a prosthodontist to put the jaw back in place. The injuries can also bring about broken bones to the facial structures or even the removal of teeth. The oral surgeon will work to ensure that the parts affected by the trauma are treated.

Treatment of facial trauma will be different according to the injury. If the patient has lost teeth they will have treatment that involves dental implants that can restore the facial appearance. The surgeon will determine the treatment according to severity, location, and type of injury. This will also be done according to the duration of the trauma or injury and other factors like health condition, age, and work. Ensure that you go through an extensive examination to determine if other parts of the body faced trauma. The dental team will identify all problems in the facial and mouth structure. They will also determine the best treatment plan for your facial trauma.
