Oral Changes That Point to Oral Cancer

When you start to notice changes in and around your mouth, it is important that you take note as to what these changes are. Some, such as wrinkles, come with age. Others, however, come as the early signs you may have oral cancer.

You need to keep up with anything that changes in your mouth. If you notice something off within your mouth, give us a call. We need to take a look so we can tell you what is going on, and what you can do to stop it.

Remember, The Earlier You Catch Oral Cancer, The Better

The one thing that cannot be stressed enough is that the sooner you catch the initial signs of oral cancer, the more likely it is to be treatable.

Waiting, even a few months, can delay that necessary treatment and decrease your potential of a successful outcome dramatically in some cases. Make sure that you are always on the lookout for anything that points to oral cancer.

That being said, it is important that you know the signs of oral cancer. This can involve lesions inside your mouth that keep getting larger or simply won't heal. You may find that an area of tissue in or near your mouth gets thicker than the rest.

Lumps that show up somewhere around your mouth are also signs to be watchful of. Little changes that don't feel right need to be checked out. Most early signs of oral cancer are not painful, so if you feel something off but it doesn't hurt, don't dismiss it.

Knowing what to be on the lookout for is huge. The more you know, the safer you are. Keep checking the inside of your mouth and look for anything out of the ordinary. If you find something, call us right away.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call us at (608) 960-7650 today.

The doctors of Madison Oral Surgery & Dental Implants would like to inform you of the enhanced safety protocol developed for our office in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Working with recommendations from the CDC, American Dental Association, OSHA, and local government, we have enhanced our already stringent protocols for hygiene and safety.

•  All patients and staff wear masks
•  All patients and guests are screened with a COVID-19 questionnaire and temperature check prior to admission to our clinic lobby. Hand hygiene is performed before entry.
•  All personnel have daily temperature checks
•  To allow for social distancing, we have reduced the number of patients and guests in the office at one time and spaced the seating in our lobby appropriately
•  Allow more time for disinfecting between patient encounters
•  Increased disinfection of frequently touched surfaces including counter tops, handles, lobby seating, and bathroom surfaces
•  New, single use pens to avoid germ sharing between patients and personnel
•  Procedural personnel wear N95/KN95 masks and face shields
