How Implants Prevent Bone Loss
|
• | Medical Ailments: There are medical problems that can slow your body's natural healing process. This may include patients battling diabetes, patients receiving cancer treatment and more. It’s important to reveal any medical condition you may currently have, as well as conditions you battled in the past, even if it seems irrelevant. We can discuss those conditions, or even collect more information from your personal physician if needed. Conditions that limit healing could limit the success of implantation. We may be able to discuss alternatives or changes that can be made to increase success. |
• | Medication: Some medications may limit your body’s ability to heal at a reasonable rate. We will want to be notified of any and all legal and illegal substances you are ingesting, even if it seems irrelevant or personal. This will help us determine if successful implantation is possible. |
• | Smoking: Smoking tobacco or marijuana can cause negative effects to your oral health and should not be done while healing. The heat of the smoking reduces saliva production leaving the patient more susceptible to infection. There are also properties that can limit healing such as temporary paralysis to the tissue. |
