Pre-Operative Instructions: Dental Implants

The following tips will help you prepare for your upcoming dental implant procedure. A dose of antibiotics will be given in the office before your implant procedure. If you are scheduled to have your procedure with local anesthesia or local anesthesia and nitrous oxide, you may drive yourself and eat normally before the appointment. If you have been scheduled to receive IV anesthesia, you must not eat or drink anything for 6 hours prior to your procedure, though you may take your regular medications with a small sip of water. A driver must accompany you to the appointment and take you home after your procedure. If you have had difficulties receiving an IV or having a blood sample taken, drinking a few extra cups of water for 3 days before your appointment can help the IV go smoothly. Wear loose-fitting clothing such as a short-sleeve T-shirt to allow easy access to your arms. If you are not sure which anesthesia option your procedure has been scheduled for, please reach out to our office.
