Pre-Operative Instructions: Wisdom Teeth Removal

The following tips will help you prepare for your wisdom tooth procedure and can help ensure a smooth recovery and an optimal result. Please brush your teeth well prior to surgery. Most patients undergoing wisdom teeth removal receive IV anesthesia to ensure a comfortable experience. For anesthesia safety, please be sure to not eat or drink anything for 6 hours prior to your procedure, though you may take your regular medications with a small sip of water. A driver must accompany you to the appointment and take you home after your procedure. If you have had difficulties receiving an IV or having a blood sample taken, drinking a few extra cups of water for 3 days before your appointment can help the IV go smoothly. Wear loose-fitting clothing such as a short-sleeve T-shirt to allow easy access to your arms. Consider stocking up on soft-textured foods to eat after having oral surgery.
